Job Summary The DNR is seeking to fill one (1) seasonal, full-time Laborer-Trades & Equipment (LTE) position based out of Old Mill State Park, near Argyle, MN.
This position anticipated seasonal dates are January to November.
Work hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:00am to 5:30pm.
This position exists to assist the Area Supervisor-Parks & Trails and Area Staff in managing and directing the operations of Parks and Trails facilities and to perform the daily activities involved with facility development and maintenance in Area 1C.
Responsibilities include: To apply technical knowledge in the repair and maintenance of sites and facilities, including cleaning and rehabilitation work on the parks and trails facilities and buildings so that they are safe, clean, attractive, and high quality for public use.
To perform routine inspections and minor repairs on equipment and shop facilities so they are always in safe operating condition for use.
Operate or direct the use of equipment to construct and service recreation facilities, so that safe and high-quality facilities are provided for public use.
Collect, record and report accurate information on equipment, facilities, work progress so that parks and trails operations will be safe and operate efficiently.
To perform summer and winter maintenance on all Area 1C and park trails so that they are always safe and in excellent condition for use by the public.
Operate or direct the use of heavy equipment to construct and service recreation facilities and trails so that safe and high-quality facilities and trails are provided for the public use.
Complete safety and other job-related training.
To assure responsibility safety and accountability for safety performance so that employees perform tasks according to established safety procedures and reduce injuries and equipment damage.
In addition, maintain the health and safety requirements to ensure public safety.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Position requires a Class A license, passing a pre-employment drug screen and participation in the DNR ongoing random screening program.
Otherwise, qualified applicants who do not have a valid Class A will be allowed up to 6 months to acquire one, as a condition of employment.
Employees who are required to retain this license will be included in the DNR Drug and Alcohol Plan.
This will require the employee to be pre-employment drug tested and be included in a random drug and alcohol testing program.
Knowledge and/or experience of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in trades work and construction.
Knowledge and/or experience safely operating and maintaining medium & heavy motorized equipment, e.
g.
, dump trucks, snow plows, tractors with trailers, watercraft, grader, backhoe, front-end loader, auger, plus power and hand tools, including chain saws, air compressors, carpentry tools, and other equipment/tools as assigned.
Knowledge and/or experience performing minor repairs and make adjustments to machinery and equipment, including general maintenance and repair of buildings.
Ability to understand and follow verbal directions sufficient to interpret, communicate and carry out verbal assignments, safely and efficiently.
Ability to withstand exposure to adverse weather and environmental conditions.
Ability to work with limited supervision.
Ability to communicate orally to staff/visitors, etc.
Ability to solve problems, make decisions, work safely and effectively with others.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge and experience of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in trades work and construction.
Experience of field management techniques, including engineering skills needed to maintain trail and water recreation facilities.
Knowledge of equipment, machinery and materials needed to develop, operate, and maintain trail and water recreation facilities.
Experience in equipment maintenance and minor equipment repairs.
Experience in the safe operation of tractors, trucks, trailers, mowers, chain saws and related equipment, or trails and water recreation site maintenance including winter groomed trails.
Considerable knowledge of the goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for Parks & Trails programs.
Working knowledge of civil engineering, landscape architecture and planning process, as applicable to recreation facility design and construction.
Considerable knowledge of equipment needed to develop, operate, and maintain trail and water recreation facilities.
Some knowledge of natural resource management fields such as forestry, wildlife management, hydrology, sufficient to know when a specialist should be involved.
Knowledge of organizations, groups and interests involved in Parks & Trails activities.
Working knowledge of financial management procedures of Parks & Trails.
Technical school certificates, licensure, or degrees in one or more of the following: carpentry, construction, electrical repair, plumbing, masonry, small engine repair/automotive, or HVAC.
First aid/CPR certification.
Experience providing lead work direction/assigning tasks/ensuring completion.
Defensive Driving training.
Current Advanced Chainsaw (B Faller) Certification.
Additional Requirements This position requires current possession of a valid Class A license or the ability to obtain one in the first 6 months of employment.
