Network Engineer 494655 Grand Forks, North Dakota, United States University IT Information Technology Full-time Staff Closing on: May 13 2024 Salary/Position Classification $71,000+ Annual, Exempt 40 hours per week 100% Remote Work Availability: No Hybrid Work Availability: No Purpose of Position This position is responsible for providing high-quality IT support to the University of North Dakota campus and its constituents and for ensuring all support is provided in a timely, customer-focused manner.
This position is responsible for working with Network Services to configure, set up, and troubleshoot networking for departments as well as the residence halls.
Duties & Responsibilities 50% - Network Operations Oversee the ongoing design, operation, optimization, and upgrading of the college’s local area network, wide area network connections, and related systems (e.
g.
, network defenses, network appliances, etc.
).
Monitor network performance and report network operational status.
Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
Provide guidance to junior members of the team as required.
Receive and respond to incoming calls, pages, and/or e-mails regarding network connectivity problems.
Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex network problems for a variety of end users and recommend and implement corrective hardware and software solutions, including off-site repair.
Network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory.
Prepare, maintain, and adhere to procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring network data.
Liaise with and provide training and support to help desk support staff on network issues.
Coordinate efforts with networking vendors and outsourcing agencies, maintaining good relationships and overseeing “scope of work” contracts for outside assistance in network upgrades, wiring installations, etc.
Ensure organization and industry-related security standards are met.
20% - Purchasing Support development and implementation of networking projects and new technology installations.
Review and interpret network operating information.

Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
Evaluate and recommend the purchase of networking hardware and software products.
Write technical specifications for the purchase of networking hardware and software products.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of networking contracts and supervise contract-based installations.

20% - Planning Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current and future technologies and best practices by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations.
Provide advice and assistance to senior management in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of modifications to existing operations, systems, and procedures.
Provide input for the annual UIT operating budget as related to network infrastructure needs (e.
g.
, routers, switches, cabling, etc.
) Develop and implement policies and procedures consistent with those of the college to ensure efficient, effective, and safe operation of key IT infrastructure.
Work with end users and department heads to identify and document required network service levels.
Work to meet service-level agreements with end users.
Aid in the development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans and maintain current knowledge of plan executables.
Respond to emergency network outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
Prepare and ensure accuracy of documentation, procedures manuals, and help sheets for network installations, including data, voice, and video systems.
10% - Other Duties Complete timesheets in a timely manner.
Document and update projects in TeamDynamix to track project progress.
Participates in on-call rotation.
Develop and maintain contact with people in key positions pertinent to other duties and responsibilities.
Attend conferences, webinars, and seminars.
Remain as current as possible with new technology.
Research new products and services that may benefit supported departments.
Attend departmental meetings.
Serve on campus-wide committees and participate in campus-wide meetings when applicable.
Maintain confidential information in all aspects of the position in accordance with applicable compliance requirements (FERPA, HIPPA, PCI Compliance, etc.
).

Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field plus two years directly related experience OR Associate's degree plus four years directly related experience OR 7 years directly related work experience.
Experience with LAN and WAN internetworking, including IP switching and routing, TCP/IP, Ethernet, BGP, OSPF, and multicasting and remote access.
Experience with the design and implementation of internetworks and related systems, including IP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, SMTP, and Radius.
Experience with disaster recovery and infrastructure deployment.

Preferred Qualifications Experience working in an environment required to maintain confidentiality, such as HIPAA, FERPA, and PCI Compliance.
Experience with enterprise-level network and security systems and network admission control systems.
Experience with designing and maintaining a campus-wide enterprise-level wireless system.
Experience with Windows and Linux servers, server virtualization technology, and requirements analysis.
Experience with backup procedures, failovers, redundancy, and server planning.
Experience with monitoring and alerting on performance, status, availability, and latency of network and security equipment.
Experience with data center design and implementation, facilities management and design, network engineering, and network infrastructure.
