Purpose of Position
The Department of Art & Design at the University of North Dakota seeks a full-time Assistant Professor of Sculpture and Printmaking.
This is a 9-month tenure track position, contingent upon the availability of funding.
The Department of Art & Design offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Arts, a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Arts and Graphic Design, and a Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts.
Established in 1883, the University of North Dakota is the oldest research university in North Dakota.

Duties & Responsibilities The successful applicant will receive a competitive salary for teaching a 3/2 load during the academic year.
Courses may be a mix of face-to-face and online offerings.
Students will be at both the undergraduate and graduate level in Sculpture and Printmaking, related areas of expertise and/or art foundations.

Select, prepare, and maintain current curriculum, course outlines and printed and non-printed instructional materials.
Oversee and maintain the sculpture and printmaking studio.
Engage in curriculum planning and revision as needed.
Advise students as it pertains to their educational program.
Mentor and advise students through the BFA Exhibition.
Participate, when appropriate, in such things as schedule building, budget input, equipment and material orders, etc.
Assist in timely efforts to meet program reviews and the development and implementation of accreditation guidelines.
Keep current knowledge of developments in the field by reading industry literature, engaging in professional development activities, and networking with colleagues.
Engage in life-long learning in the areas including (but not limited to) higher education, student-centered learning, high-impact practices (HIPs), and teaching/learning new technologies.

Required Competencies Ability to teach and develop a broad array of Sculpture and Printmaking courses at the undergraduate and graduate (if qualified) level.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including evidence of the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students.
Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
Ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the Art & Design program.
Ability to adapt to current methods of teaching, including online delivery.
Ability to lift at least 30 pounds related to various teaching and service needs.
Minimum Requirements MFA or equivalent degree in Sculpture and Printmaking or art by August 15, 2024.
Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary trends and theories in the fields of Sculpture and Printmaking.
Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary sculpture and printmaking practices, both traditional analogue and expanded media.
Experience teaching in undergraduate level programs.
Supervisory experience or ability to coordinate and oversee computer department labs.
Successful completion of a Standard Criminal History Background Check In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
Official transcripts from the highest awarding educational institution must be provided upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications Evidence of an understanding of the history of sculpture and printmaking along with contemporary/interdisciplinary practices and theory.
Experience teaching graduate and undergraduate students in a cross-media studio arts program.
Experience in gallery management, coordinating a gallery schedule, and overseeing student workers and preparator; overseeing installations, receiving, and shipping artworks, writing reports, and coordinating maintenance of facilities.
Strong curatorial record, including effective experience in developing and coordinating curatorial projects and exhibitions to promote contemporary art to the students and the greater community.
Experience teaching Intro to Photography through Advanced Photography, digital and traditional darkroom.
Experience running and maintaining darkroom, digital lab, and lighting studio.
Demonstrated proficiency in 3D and printmaking media.
Experience with software and digital applications related to the courses taught.
Work Schedule/Start Date Position is full-time, benefitted and exempt.
Initial contract extends from August 16, 2024 to May 15, 2025.
Summer teaching may be available but is neither guaranteed nor required.
