This position is a Paraprofessional Interventionist with a focus on Literacy & Math at the Elementary level.
Working hours are flexible between 7:30 am - 3pm Monday - Friday when school is in session.
Education: High school diploma or high school equivalent.
Preference to those with a bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
Preference to applicants with North Dakota Teaching License.
Qualifications: Must have or be eligible for a North Dakota teaching license qualified to teach at the elementary level.
Background and knowledge in literacy intervention strategies.
Ability to work with students with various academic needs.
Desire to work with school teachers and students.
Job Goal: The goal of the Elementary Interventionist is to assist students who have been identified as at-risk with literacy and provide a continuum of support.
The interventionist develops material and lesson plans, conducts classroom instruction and evaluates and assesses student performance.
The interventionist interprets student progress and collaborates with identified teachers who share the at-risk students served and develops a transition plan between the intervention classroom and the regular classroom.
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: Provide direct instruction to students identified as eligible for literacy services in individual and/or small group settings.
Uses identified needs to guide the learning process toward student achievement of the literacy and math content standards.
Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects using formal and informal assessment data obtained from students.
Uses a variety of manipulatives and hands-on activities.
Creates a classroom environment and research-based program of study that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the interests of the students.
Conducts student assessments to identify those eligible for intervention services, to plan instruction, and/or to assist teachers.
Communicate effectively with teachers and parents.
Be familiar with the Multi-Tiered System of Supports.
Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand.
The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.
Occasionally may need to lift up to fifty (50) lbs; reaching, standing, walking, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and/or crawling within the classroom.
The employee may encounter situations where students are physically aggressive and/or verbally abusive.
This may require physical interaction (using strategies acquired through de-escalation and restraint training) between the employee and student.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The employee may be exposed to infection at a greater risk than the average person.
May be directly responsible for the safety, well-being and/or output of students.
Terms of Employment: 188 days contract Evaluation: By the Principal at least twice each year in the first three years of service (December 15 & April 15), and at least once each year thereafter (April 15).
