Academic Advisor & Recruitment Specialist 494474 Grand Forks, North Dakota, United States Nursing Advising/Student Support Full-time Staff Closing on: Apr 4 2024 Salary/Position Classification $44,000+ dependent on experience, Exempt 40 hours per week 100% Remote Work Availability: No Hybrid Work Availability: No Purpose of Position The nursing office of student services provides admission and advising assistance to prospective and current students in addition to providing support and reporting to faculty and staff of the college.
This position advises pre-nursing and nursing students in the undergraduate nursing track as well as provides program information to students in the graduate nursing tracks.
This position also recruits prospective nursing students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Additionally, this position also coordinates and assists with the student scholarship process.
Duties & Responsibilities Academic Advising Conduct individual student advisement sessions and maintain accurate advising notes Answer questions on transfer courses and syllabi, including syllabi review and disbursement, communication with departments and faculty on campus Monitor students receiving unsatisfactory progress notices or flags Provide advice and guidance to prospective and current students; refer students to faculty or other resources as appropriate Assist students with petitions when necessary Maintain schedule and notes in Starfish, as well as other functions as appropriate Contact students who need to enroll through phone calls and/or emails as requested Monitor student progression Provide letters of reference and support when requested Transition Advising Provide advisement for transfer students and prospective transfer students Complete change of major requests Work with other departments on syllabus reviews and transfer equivalences Provide accurate and timely communication to transfer students, prospective transfer students and other entities on campus Recruitment Assist with prospective student inquiries – phone, email, and in person and maintain records of the interaction Meet with prospective students and families Provide tours for prospective students and families Represent the College of Nursing and Professional Disciplines at recruitment events Student Programming Work as a team with the OSS Director and Assistant Director to brainstorm ideas for undergraduate student programming Communicate programming opportunities to students, as well as notify faculty and staff Work with other departments on campus to identify and secure resources for student programming events Develop semester plan and communication at orientation Conduct and analyze surveys, as well as research best practices to ensure the information presented is useful for students Scholarship Selection Coordinate with Director regarding possible use of funds for scholarships and determine amount Be familiar with Scholarship Central (Academic Works) and use for scholarship review and awards Put out notices/reminders to students to submit scholarship applications Work with Director to assure a scholarship faculty committee is appointed and meeting(s) scheduled Determine all scholarships which will be available to award, the amounts, and update spreadsheets for committee/Dean Document Committee decisions and submit awards in Academic Works Follow up on students’ thank you notes to donors Required Competencies Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing Ability to work independently and collaboratively Strong customer service and interpersonal skills Effective organizational skills Demonstrated decision-making skills Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree 1 year advising experience Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
