Job Description:
Payroll Specialist- Grand Forks, ND
The Payroll Specialist will process payroll in a multi-state corporate environment.
This includes a wide variety of activities, including computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions, and completing needed compliance reporting for approximately 350 employees.
Responsibilities
Review employee timesheets to ensure accurate recording of work hours and leave
Provide employees with training on timekeeping system
Enter payroll data into payroll system and spreadsheets, considering factors such as bonuses, commissions, and wage garnishments
Maintain accurate records of employee information, tax details, and deductions
Reconcile payroll deductions and changes
Prepare and reconcile payroll drafts
Ensure payroll is delivered accurately and timely
Create and submit electronic files for bank and retirement plan contribution uploads related to payroll
Balance payroll accounts by auditing information, identifying and resolving discrepancies, and correcting history as appropriate
Produce annual W-2s and management reports
File monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll reports and make necessary payments timely and accurately
Act as a subject matter expert as it relates to gross to net payroll rules and wage and hour laws; remain up-to-date on multi-state and federal payroll rules and regulations to ensure compliance
Provide client service to internal employees by answering questions and inquiries related to paychecks, deductions, etc.
Basic Requirements
Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or other related field
3+ years of payroll experience including knowledge of multi-state payroll, tax, deductions, and the associated accounting transactions
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Ability to maintain a high level of discretion with confidential information
Must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or other related field
Experience with fee and hourly billing in a professional services firm
Excellent verbal and written communication
Diligence and commitment to following through and resolving issues
Experience using Deltek Vantagepoint
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to independently manage time and prioritize responsibilities to meet deadlines
