Financial Accountant 494295 Grand Forks, North Dakota, United States Controller Accounting/Finance Full-time Staff Closing on: Feb 15 2024 Salary/Position Classification $50,000- $56,000 plus, DOE Annual, Exempt 40 hours per week Hybrid Work Availability: Yes Purpose of Position The UND Controller’s Office seeks a skilled professional who is forward-thinking and self-driven for our Treasury Unit.
This integral position is part of the UND Controller’s team, a team responsible for general ledger integrity, financial statement reporting, and cash and investment management.
This team member will be responsible for daily bank details from all deposit types while communicating with campus departments, using excellent customer service skills, and posting to the general ledger promptly and accurately.
This person will be required to troubleshoot and resolve bank discrepancies with internal and external customers.
Other responsibilities include managing the UND Treasury email, which requires understanding the UND general ledger to the bank detail and explaining results to UND department personnel.
Key areas of this role are supervising and managing the cashiering process, and and assisting the senior financial accountant with bank reconciliations and Nelnet setup and management, and assisting the Controller’s Office with journal imports.
This position requires three years of professional experience, independent thinking, and troubleshooting skills.
Required competencies include demonstrating excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills, being results-focused, making decisions, and problem solving.
Duties & Responsibilities Along with the treasury senior accountant, manage the daily banking details of the University, including ACH, transfers, cash, wires and troubleshooting posting discrepancies Manage the cashiering process using professional judgement and discretion to determine the risk associated with non-compliance and errors Ensure cash reconciliation and adherence to cash handling procedures upholding the highest standards of security, fraud prevention, and regulation/compliance Manage the Treasury departmental email, ensuring professional, timely and accurate responses and information flow Load journals into the UND accounting system, and pre-audit all journal imports Alongside the director of treasury and the senior accountant, assist in reconciling and troubleshooting 12 bank accounts and 50+ credit card merchant accounts, including $500M of deposit and payment transactions that cross all financial system modules (student finance, payroll, accounts payable, grants, and finance) Collaborate with leadership and contribute to developing and implementing best practices for treasury to ensure compliance Partner with our Learning & Development Specialist and act as the provider of training materials for current, updated, and new processes for cashiering Required Competencies Demonstrated strong communication skills – including written, oral and listening: articulate ideas clearly, concisely, and persuasively, showing sensitivity to one’s audience.

Preferred Qualifications Experience using PeopleSoft software Experience working with data analytics and reporting software (TIBCO, Tableau, Power BI, etc.
) Cash handling experience Experience with documenting accounting processes Experience identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives Two or more years of experience with bank and cash reconciliations Expertise in accounting and financial reporting standards (GASB or FASB, and GAAP) Thorough understanding of risk and risk mitigation associated with treasury functions.
