Job Summary ** The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students.
Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.
Under general supervision, this position exists to perform custodial and general maintenance and repairs to building and grounds to provide a clean, comfortable, healthy and safe environment for internal State employees and external customers in as efficiently a manner as possible.
This s position works with power tools, machinery/instruments and equipment, and hand tools requiring the frequent lifting, carrying, and holding of supplies and parts up to 50 pounds and rarely up to 100 pounds.
Cleaning rooms and furniture.
Assisting with conference room setups to include rearranging, setting up, or taking down chairs and tables.
Cleaning restrooms and restocking restroom supplies.
Maintaining floors including sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing, vacuuming, and shampooing.
Landscaping such as planting, mowing, trimming, and watering.
Removing snow and ice from sidewalks and parking lots with snow blowers, shovels, and deicers.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Candidate must possess a valid driver's license.
Knowledge of and skills in: Different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents and equipment.
Chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.
Methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs.
Ability to: Follow simple oral and written instructions.
Perform assigned tasks with limited work direction.
Keep simple records.
Physical health and endurance sufficient to perform work functions.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of painting products and processes of applying.
Knowledge of horticultural practices sufficient to properly care for lawns, tress, and shrubs.
Ability to work with others of diverse backgrounds and effectively communicate with tact and diplomacy.
Skills in the use of hand and power tools.
Skills to operate lawn maintenance equipment and snow removal equipment.
The ability to do light repairs on equipment.
Exercise independent judgment.
Basic computer skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work in a variety of areas throughout the complex and in some cases in the out-state district buildings with a large variety of tools (both power and hand).
The employee frequently uses gross and fine dexterity in a variety of positions including reaching outward, overhead, bending, working with outstretched arms, working from heights and bending over.

Loads over 100 pounds are lifted occasionally, but with the aid of lifting devices and fellow workers.

Working conditions include vision, noise vibration, respiratory and chemical hazards.
Employee works outdoors in variety of weather conditions.
