Roles and Responsibilities: As a Grain Elevator Operator and Technician, you will: Assist in the proper receiving, weighing, grading, testing, binning, storing, handling, drying, and loading of incoming and outgoing grain for the site.
Load and unload trucks and railcars by operating loading systems and equipment, ensuring safety standards are prioritized.
Set up, adjusts, and operates laboratory equipment and instruments, ensuring safety and quality guidelines are always followed.
Test samples of grain to determine extent of dirt, burrs, hulls, seeds, and other dockage and compares to quality standards to determine next steps.
Extract grain samples for analysis and certification of moisture and protein content.
Clean, grades, and weighs grain samples and accurately documents, and records weight, description, and destination of grain shipped and received.
Perform plant sanitation and general house cleaning (sweeping, shoveling, washing) of elevators, rooftops, main work floors, cleaner rooms, boots, under scales, rail sheds, and the overall grounds of the facilities.
Clean and sanitizes equipment including railcars, bins, and grading equipment.
Control conveyors and selects flow pipes and storage tanks to convey grain into storage or to loading department.
Monitor equipment to ensure it is in good working order, participating in the overall maintenance of the facility and equipment and notifying management of any necessary repairs or possible equipment concerns.
Operate equipment such as Vehicles, Skid Steer Loader, Wheel Loader, Tractors, etc.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the company and its operational needs.
Minimum Education & Work Requirements: High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
2+ years of grain handling elevator experience.
Previous experience in production, food processing, or grain handling recommended.
Strong mechanical aptitude to learn, operate, and maintain railcar and trans-loading equipment, such as hoses, portable conveyors, transfer pumps, portable stair systems, and small to medium sized equipment.
Ability to adjust schedule based on seasonality requirements during harvest.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge and understanding of elevator processes and equipment.
Ability to read and interpret written information (e.
g.
safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures) and basic arithmetic skills.
Ability to write routine production records and communicate with other employees, shift leaders, and operational leadership.
Self-motivated contributor that understands operational metrics and takes ownership of individual and team results.
Proven ability to demonstrate and prioritize leadership and training skills.
Collaborates with other employees to successfully troubleshoot issues as required.
