00 Hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime) 20 hours per week 100% Remote Work Availability: No Hybrid Work Availability: No Purpose of Position This position is responsible for the preparation and sanitation of equipment used in the housing and husbandry of the animals within the Center for Biomedical Research Facility.
This position monitors and maintains the cage wash area and sanitation equipment to ensure proper operation as well as monitors detergent levels for the cage washers.
This position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining other assigned areas of the facility as well as carrying out any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Duties & Responsibilities Preparation and Sanitation of Equipment Disposes of dirty bedding from cages, places on wash rack, loads into cage washer, and starts proper wash cycle.
Prepares stainless steel carts/shelving racks, IVC racks, etc.
for wash and starts proper wash cycle.
Sorts, hand wash, soak, and rinses small animal equipment.
Places into crate onto bottle wash rack and starts proper wash cycle.
Checks/maintains cage washer and bottle wash rack spray nozzles daily.
Maintains cleanliness/maintenance of autoclave rack.
Checks wear on cage washer traveler cables and reports to supervisor if worn and needing repair.
Cautiously handles, gathers, and loads equipment from treated animals with bio-hazardous materials, etc.
onto autoclave cart and starts proper autoclave cycle.
Checks/maintains cleanliness of cage washer filters by removal of filters and washing.
Maintains cleanliness of stainless steel surfaces (cage washers, autoclave, sinks, and doors).
Remove cages from wash rack and fill with bedding.
Deliver clean cages to animal rooms.
Fill water bottles for animals.
Operate autoclave to sterilize equipment.
Assemble disposable caging for transferring animals to other facilities.
Monitor/Maintenance Cage Wash Area/Sanitation Equipment Maintains floor drains by cleaning drain screens.
Maintains cleanliness of work area by sweeping, hosing down, squeegee, and mopping of entire floor area daily.
Monitors the ventilation and filters of the Animal Bedding Disposal Cabinet.
Monitors the ventilation and filters of the Animal Bedding Dispenser Cabinet.
Monitors the ceiling ventilation vents and cleans when necessary.
Maintains supplies (shoe covers, gloves, paper towels, garbage bags, etc.
) Monitor/Maintenance of Assigned Facility Areas Checks/maintains Procedure Room Sweeps/mops, sanitizes sinks, and counters in assigned areas.
Sanitizes hallway phone and maintains shoe cover supply.
Maintains supplies of gloves, paper towels, garbage bags, etc.
in assigned facility areas.
Organization/Time Management Consciously and diligently manages workday schedule by allocating efficient time to complete daily tasks effectively.
Prioritizes work load to efficiently and timely meet demand.
Maintains organization of equipment by neatly and orderly.
Professionalism/Teamwork Provides effective services to the animal care program through teamwork by showing regard towards co-workers in cooperation, willingness, and communication.
Provide effective services to the animal care program with communication, respect, and regard for the guidance set forth by the supervisor.
Follows and adheres to supervisor direction.
Waste Disposal Collect and place trash next to garage door for disposal.
Transports bedding waste, pallets, shipping crates, etc.
to dumpster for disposal.
Safety Follow safety rules.
Help identify unsafe working conditions.
Stop co-workers who are working in an unsafe manner.
Required Competencies Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Good communication skills.
Must be dependable.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
Ability to work alone and as part of a team.
Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
