ORIGINAL Oil painting by Theodore Sohner Theodore Sohner (1906-1962) was a well known Norwegian-American painter known for his portraiture in the Midwest.
This untitled piece is likely a commission that was discovered in an estate in northwest Minnesota.
Sohner studied in Europe with the French sculptor Andre L'Hote, but returned to the Twin Cities area to paint and teach.
Prior to his unexpected death in 1962, Sohner was moving more towards Cubism in his work, but was unable to fully explore the approach.
A large collection of his paintings are held by the Vesterheim, the National Norwegian-American Museum and Heritage Center in Decorah, Iowa.
