The specialist arranges over 800 placements a year and works closely with faculty and the Office of Teacher Education team to ensure that all teacher education programs meet state teacher licensure and accreditation requirements for clinical experiences.
The specialist will organize and facilitate activities required for field experiences and student teaching such as background checks and fingerprinting and will maintain all documentation of clinical experiences required for teacher licensure and accreditation.
Duties & Responsibilities Coordinate field experience and student teaching placements and maintain records relating to this work.
Solicit and maintain a list of potential cooperating teachers for field placements and student teaching.
Coordinate with faculty to determine field placement needs each semester.
Manage TEAM Orientation/Student Teaching application process.
Coordinate student fingerprinting and background checks, signing of legal documents, HIV & STD Training, etc.
Conduct Student Teaching Conferences every spring and fall semester.
Secure and track field experience placements and student teaching placements.
Collaborate with the Teacher Certification Officer to ensure all placements meet accreditation and licensing requirements.
Make site visits to schools to ensure positive relationships are established and maintained.
Input placement information into database(s) that will ensure accreditation congruency, timely stakeholder notification of placements, and positive communication flow within Office and between stakeholders.
Create, send out, collect & manage cooperating teacher contracts for student teaching each semester.
Manage student teaching supervisor Flexplace Forms Calculate supervisor mileage and overage fees for student teaching placements, when applicable Communicate with and provide information to stakeholder and campus community orally and in writing in a positive and accurate manner.
Assemble and disperse student information to appropriate parties as per FERPA regulations, including materials to schools and students for various placements.
Engage in both digital and verbal correspondence between stakeholder groups to ensure positive relations.
Create and maintain email group lists for ease of communication between our Office and other stakeholder groups.
Maintain & update Teacher Education Blackboard Organization Sites.
Support students in the field as appropriate, including, but not limited to the following: provide student teachers with correct registration sections and credit hours by registration deadline and track their progress, create and provide student requested Level I Dispositions for the Teacher Education application.
Participate as an office team member and collaborate with Office of Teacher Education personnel, EHD faculty, and students to ensure provision of quality student services.
Participate in and assist with in-person activities and events such as Teacher Talk, Welcome Back Fall Picnic, Scholarship Luncheon, TSPEC, etc.
as requested by the Associate Dean for Student Services, the Director of Teacher Education, or the Teacher Education Officer.
Engage in opportunities to support the recruitment and retention of students through on-campus events or visits to P-12 schools.
Assist with managing student files in Perceptive Content.
Required Competencies Demonstrated excellence in writing and verbal communication (written, verbal, and social media).
Experience in positive collaborations with others.
Aptitude and interest in learning new software and systems.
Interest in engaging within the teacher education workforce.
Demonstrated attention to detail in working with online programs Excellent organization skills and a high degree of attention to detail.
Strong time-management skills and multitasking abilities.
Ability to prioritize tasks according to need, timeliness, and value Minimum Requirements Bachelors degree.
Experience in working with P-12 schools, customer service, or administrative support.
Experience creating and maintaining mailing lists, databases, and other pertinent information.
Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check.

Preferred Qualifications Three years of experience as a P-12 educator or school professional.
