40 hours per week 100% Remote Work Availability: No Hybrid Work Availability: No Purpose of Position The University of North Dakota’s (UNDs) Department of Atmospheric Sciences is seeking a qualified mid-career applicant with an existing nationally/internationally-recognized research portfolio to apply for an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor position (open rank) depending on qualifications.
The position may be tenure track or an offer of tenure may be made based on a candidate's documented record of achievement and subject to approval from the Department, College, University and the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education.
The anticipated start date is August 16, 2024, although an earlier start date may be considered.

in Atmospheric Sciences.
UND is a UCAR Member institution.
Fall 2023 enrollments included 143 undergraduate students (79 minors and 64 majors) and 33 graduate students in these programs.
Teaching and research is carried out by 10 faculty members; current areas of faculty expertise are listed at https://atmos.

Facilities include a 5-cm wavelength Doppler weather radar with dual polarization capability, two instrumented ground research sites, and use of a Cessna Citation research aircraft in collaboration with a local research firm.
Cooperative programs are ongoing with the National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office in Grand Forks.

Duties & Responsibilities The successful candidates will be responsible for, over 9 months: Teaching up to 3 courses per year (2+1 or 1+2 schedule) with fewer courses possible in association with administrative duties or a heavier research load with course buyouts.
Continuing nationally/internationally-recognized externally-funded independent research.
Providing service to the department, college, university, and national/international community, including academic advising.
Required Competencies Evidence of the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students.

Minimum Requirements A Ph.
D.
in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, or a closely-related field.
Over the past 5 years, has worked in Atmospheric Sciences, Meteorology, or a closely-related field.
Successful completion of a Standard Criminal History Background Check In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications Is a professor (any rank) at a College/University or is a mid-ranking (or higher) atmospheric scientist at a national laboratory.
Past 5 years of performance in research (and teaching, if applicable), meets UND ATSC Tenure and Promotion standards that would be sufficient for granting tenure at UND.
Strong evidence of the ability to successfully obtain future external research funding.
Demonstrated subject matter expertise in crewed or uncrewed aviation, aviation meteorology, synoptic meteorology, broadcast meteorology, meteorological instrumentation, boundary-layer meteorology, general circulation, climate dynamics, atmospheric chemistry, cloud physics, tropical meteorology, stratospheric research, energy sustainability, and/or atmospheric science applications involving machine learning or artificial intelligence.
Demonstrated ability to teach a range of courses for the undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Atmospheric Sciences as described in the UND academic catalog.
Demonstrated expertise in research that aligns with UND Grand Challenge goals (such as autonomous systems, energy sustainability, or big data).
Leadership/mentoring experience involving management of at least a moderate-sized research program (5 to 10 individuals, or more).
